Spring Cleaning Guide
Wash Windows
Be sure to pick a cloudy day to wash windows. If it's too sunny, the cleaning solution will dry too fast and you'll have streaks. Remember to clean the window frames too.
Open Windows
Let the house breath – airing the house is much better than using artificial air fresheners.
Get out the Feather Duster
Now is the time to whizz around the house with the feather duster and long-hose attachment on the vacuum to get rid of all the cobwebs.
Clean Light Fittings
Use a microfiber or lint-free cloth to dust fixtures and bulbs and get them sparkling again. To clean grimy bulbs, lightly dampen your cloth with vinegar (make sure the light is switched off)
Clean the Woodwork
Painted skirting boards and door frames can get dirty over time so will benefit from a wash down. Use an abrasive cleanser and a soft cloth to take any marks off the painted wood. Your woodwork will instantly look refreshed and smell gorgeous!
Shampoo Carpets
Carpets benefit from a deep clean especially in high traffic areas. Spring is the perfect time to call in the professionals and have your carpets cleaned. Your carpets will look, feel and smell better.
Move the furniture
Spring is the perfect time to move all the furniture including sofas, beds etc so that you can vacuum behind and underneath them. You will be surprised just how much dust is there! Remember to roll up any rugs and vacuum all the floors. If your kitchen appliances can be pulled out, do this so you can hoover and mop underneath where dirt and dust will have gathered.
Freshen Furniture
Restore smooth leather with an upholstery cleaner and conditioner and use a natural cleaner to refresh wood furniture. You can make your own by mixing 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil and 1/2 cup of vinegar or lemon juice in a plastic spray bottle; shake well and spray onto a microfiber cloth. It will revive all your old wooden furniture and leave it smelling delicious.
Vacuum Curtains
Curtains are best when they are not laundered or dry cleaned. Instead, go over them thoroughly with the upholstery attachment on your vacuum or on a summer’s day, take your curtains down and hang them over the washing line to let them air.
Get Organised
Try and have a clear out and get rid of any unwanted clutter. Split in to 3 piles; keep, throw, donate. The ‘keep’ pile should then be put in its rightful place and tidied away.
Tidy out your Wardrobe
Now that it's warmer outside, have your winter coats cleaned and then store away along with winter woollies, hats, gloves etc. Vacuum bags are a great way to store away your winter clothes whilst keeping them dust free.
Freshen Bedrooms
Rotate and flip mattresses. Wash mattress toppers and valances. Have pillows and duvets professionally cleaned.
Clear Your Bathroom
You may scrub your bathroom every week, but now it's time to clear all clutter and old products. Go through your medicine cabinets and safely discard any outdated products or medicines. Now is a good time to replace old towels and worn out bath mats.
Clear Your Kitchen
Take time to clear out your pantry, kitchen cabinets and drawers. Wipe them out. Take this opportunity to throw out or donate any equipment you don't use. Discard any out of date products and don’t forget to do the same with the fridge and freezer.
Now sit back and enjoy a well deserved cuppa....
